Green City Growers transforms unused space into thriving urban farms, providing our clients with immediate access to nutritious food, while revitalizing city landscapes and inspiring self-sufficiency
We envision a world where lawns, rooftops, and vacant lots become common and productive places to grow food – an agricultural revolution for a healthier nation. People from all walks of life will have access to a network of sustainable farms, fueling personal and environmental health.
Green City Growers was founded in 2008. Jessie Banhazl was inspired by a college friend who had come across a few ambitious farmers that had started businesses installing and maintaining vegetable gardens for home owners. The idea drew Jessie away from her career in reality television – she moved back to Boston to shape a business that transplants a farm’s essence anywhere in the city.
By the end of 2009, GCG had installed over one hundred raised-beds, partnered with a major corporation and established themselves as the leading producer of raised-bed vegetable gardens for homes and businesses in New England. The following year GCG doubled business and expanded to new towns and clients. Presently, GCG has installed over 400 raised-beds and worked with hundreds of home owners, businesses, schools, and restaurants in Eastern MA. We have developed a state-of-the-art rooftop farming system with our Green Roofing partner Recover Green Roofs, and developed custom technologies for season extension. Green City Growers is continuing to transform unused space into thriving urban farms, making it easy to grow food at home, at work, at school or anywhere else the sun shines.
